In the late 80s, Rick and I owned a 24 foot pull trailer. Rick called it a 'Marriott on wheels'. Seemed like it after upgrading from a little pop-up trailer prior to that. On one of our weekend camping trips with our new trailer in tow, we found a brand new campground called North Lake Estates near Lake Okeechobee and became one of their first visitors. We left our trailer parked at North Lake. On Friday nights after work, we would pack up our Ford Bronco and drive up to our trailer for the weekend.
The owners of the campground, Kay and David, became good friends of ours and we had some fun times at their North Lake Estates. We watched them build their dream into a resort and years later, long after we sold our trailer, Kay and David sold their successful business.
Never one to sit still or think small, David looked for another project to dig into (literally) and eventually began building 'Camp David'. This became his own private paradise open only to friends and family. In December 2012, Rick and I made a spontaneous drive up to Lake Okeechobee to see Kay and David and had the chance to visit 'Camp David'. Remarkable! Just a side note: David is far from conventional and using the word eclectic doesn't do him justice. One of his childhood heroes was a cartoon character named Snuffy Smith. Snuffy was a diminutive moonshiner and an Appalachian mountain man from a hamlet called 'Hootin Holler'. He lived in a crooked shack and was as every bit interesting a character as David is today. You will see where David gets some ideas from Snuffy.

So, enjoy your private tour of 'Camp David'. It's still growing and forming as of this post. And with an imagination as big as David's, who knows what 'Camp David' will become.
